MARELLE STUDIO
MAKINA
Release: not anounced (VR)
Team of 5

The game:
Makina is an immersive, narrative-focused experience centered around puzzles and cooperation in virtual reality. Still in the early stages of development, I joined the project as a freelance game design consultant.

My roles:
-
Designed new gameplay scenarios with consideration for both the narrative and the project's current state
-
Clarified and refined the functionality of existing features

My insights:
Working as a game design consultant at this stage of my career was a rewarding experience. Although I would have loved to continue as a full-time level designer with the team, my responsibilities at Littlefield Studio prevented me from dedicating more time to Makina.

That said, my involvement was enough to help the studio identify and focus on some design flaws that had previously gone unnoticed. By actively listening to the team and playing the game to better understand its intentions and constraints, I was able to guide our conversations toward key design questions they needed to address before progressing further. Knowing I wouldn’t be around for the entire design process, I aimed to encourage the team to reflect critically and develop their own solutions, ultimately helping them gain a deeper understanding of the game they were creating.
